Have common sense, pick the right scent

Choosing the perfect fragrance for yourself or as a gift loved one can be quite the handful. Literally! There’s so many to different scents to choose from, you’ll eventually narrow them down to a few and then pick a favourite amongst the crowd. Let’s get to know your scents so you have a better sense of which to pick.

 Fragrance Notes (aka the scent layer)

 Like an onion has a lot of layers, so does a fragrance (however, fragrances smell a lot better than onion do!). The three main layers of a fragrance are categorized into: top notes, middle notes and base notes.

  • Top Notes: last for 5-15 minutes
  • Middle Notes: last for 20-60 minutes
  • Base Notes: last for up to 6 hours

Why is this important? When you first spray a perfume, you’ll detect the top notes. These will fade quickly and linger for only a short time (5-15 minutes). These transition smoothly into middle notes, then into base notes. The perfume sinks into your skin and blends with your natural scent to create an aroma that sticks around longer.

So how do you choose the right fragrance? It comes down to what fragrance note you might be interested in: floral, citrus, woody, or musk.

Floral smells are strongest as top or middle notes. They mix over time into deep smells that add a feminine touch, are perfect for dates, or special events.
