August chat our Managing Director, Georgina Twomey

It’s already August, and peak cold and flu season. The Queensland Government has offered free influenza (flu) vaccinations to all Queensland residents over 6 months of age. Getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and others from serious illness and hospitalisation. Book an appointment online here.

In this August's issue of Live+ we discuss bone health and the benefits of vitamin D, of which there are many. Magnesium aids in the transport of vitamin D throughout the bloodstream. It also supports bone, muscle, and nerve health. When we are sick, magnesium may help fight infection by supporting energy production within our body.

When we catch a cold or flu it is normal to feel fatigued however, depending on severity some low intensity exercise like walking or yoga may prove beneficial. Gentle movement helps boost the immune system and can be an excellent way to get some sunshine and fresh air. It’s encouraged to skip high intensity workouts like sprinting or heavy weights though while your body recovers.

Essential vitamins and minerals contribute to the efficiency of our immune system that helps our body fight illnesses. A healthy immune system relies on a healthy balanced diet, regular exercise, hydration, plenty of sleep, and minimised stress.

On page 14 and 15 we talk about getting ready for the Cairns Amateurs as the event reaches a monumental milestone, its 65th year anniversary. We are excited to attend and see what’s instore for the event.

Remember to check the shelf life of your make-up and cosmetics when getting ready for any occasion. Typically, there is a 6M, 12M, or 24M symbol indicating the number of months a product lasts once opened. Bacteria spreads when exposed to the outside environment and expired products can cause breakouts. Some products our staff are currently loving are the L’Oreal Lips Ranges, Nude By Nature Mineral foundations and powders, and the Rimmel Lip Liners.

Last month we were excited to see everyone’s submissions from our July Colouring Competition and the chosen artists work will be displayed in an upcoming Live+ Issue.

Stay healthy this cold and flu season, and keep an eye out for our next catalogue cover.
